Senate Committee Advances Bipartisan Resilience Measures to Strengthen and Fortify Homes

In response to the U.S. Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee holding a markup today wherein Congressman Chuck Edwards’ (R-NC) Promoting Resilient Buildings Act with Rep. Titus’ (D-NV-1) residential retrofit pilot amendment was passed unanimously, BuildStrong America Executive Director Natalie Enclade, PhD, made the following statement:

Homes with protective features are less likely to suffer damage from severe weather events such as hurricanes, hailstorms, or high winds, which can result in costly repairs and increased insurance premiums. Encouragingly, Chairman Gary Peters (MI) and Ranking Member Rand Paul (KY) took up this issue today by marking up H.R. 4573, Promoting Resilient Buildings Act, which included Representative Dina Titus’ (D-NV-1) crucial residential retrofit and resilience pilot program provision. We are encouraged by the continued bipartisan progress made today by in the Senate. This is a core component of our desired national resilience framework and a major victory for proponents of mitigation everywhere.
