House Committee Advances Resilience Measures, Promises More Progress in 2024

In response to the U.S. House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee holding a markup today wherein resilience measures were passed and bipartisan promises made for the year ahead, BuildStrong Coalition Executive Director Natalie Enclade, PhD, made the following statement:

We are encouraged by the bipartisan progress made today by House lawmakers. Congressman Chuck Edwards’ (R-NC) Promoting Resilient Buildings Act includes a residential retrofit and resilience pilot program that would restore autonomy to families, businesses, and communities to take control of their own safety and reduce their risk ahead of the next crisis. This is a core component of our desired national resilience framework and a major victory for proponents of mitigation everywhere.

We were also pleased to see the bipartisan leadership of the committee agree on the record to exploring further hazard mitigation and building code solutions in 2024. We look forward to holding them to that promise.
